Our mission

To build an independent Irish Traveller-led platform where history, science, culture, health, education, media and human rights meet - and to use that knowledge to strengthen identity, challenge colonial systems and improve lives.

We bring Irish Traveller knowledge into the places where stories are written and decisions are made: community spaces, classrooms, universities, public bodies, Leinster House, the media and the United Nations.

Our vision

We want a future where Irish Traveller children grow up knowing that their people have history, intelligence, language, law, skill, memory and a place within the Irish story. We want public institutions to understand Irish Traveller culture as living knowledge, not as a problem to be corrected.

We want an Ireland that can face its colonial past without fear, recognise what survived inside modern systems and build something better. That work can benefit Irish Travellers, the wider Irish population and other peoples dealing with the long afterlife of colonisation.

Our purpose

• To strengthen Irish Traveller identity through truthful history and public knowledge.
• To support Irish Traveller-led research and interpretation across several disciplines.
• To examine the links between colonisation, cultural disruption, health, identity and suicide.
• To challenge policies and institutions that continue older patterns of control and assimilation.
• To protect Irish Traveller culture, language, family memory and ways of knowing.
• To create documentary, film, podcast and educational work for the wider public.
• To build direct relationships with the Oireachtas, universities, researchers, European institutions and the United Nations.
• To create real opportunities for Irish Traveller people to lead, work, research and create in their own name.

• Irish Traveller leadership: nothing about us should be shaped without our knowledge, voice and power.
• Truth: we follow evidence, including evidence that challenges comfortable stories.
• Independence: partnership should add strength, not take ownership away from the community.
• Respect: Irish Traveller knowledge and academic knowledge can meet without one silencing the other.
• Courage: difficult history must be faced if the same harm is to stop repeating.
• Plain language: people should be able to understand the decisions, science and laws affecting their lives.
• Healing: history matters because people are living with its effects now.
• Public value: knowledge should return to the community and help create lasting change.
