for ourselves.

TraVision Foundation is an independent Irish Traveller-led organisation based in Sligo. We bring community knowledge into research, public education, cultural work and human rights advocacy.

Why we began

Irish Traveller people should help set the questions, examine the evidence and tell our own stories—not simply take part after the decisions have been made.

Our founder

Bernard Sweeney

Bernard is TraVision’s founder and director. An Irish Traveller from Sligo, his work connects cultural research, writing, filmmaking and human rights.

He hosts Outside the Colony, a podcast exploring history, identity and colonisation.

Our purpose

To strengthen Irish Traveller identity, challenge false history and make knowledge useful to the people whose lives it concerns.

A connected picture

We read history, archaeology, science, law and culture together, alongside lived experience. No single discipline tells the whole story.

How we work

Irish Traveller leadership, careful evidence and plain language. We welcome collaboration that respects community voice, knowledge and ownership.
